If you are lucky enough to be invited on a business trip to Barcelona make sure you make the most of the many adventures that are available to you in this thriving city. Many venues in Barcelona are famed for their history and heritage and these alone are worth a visit. However if this isn’t to your exact taste there are infinite other opportunities for you to explore.
Culture
Barcelona architecture has earned itself a global reputation for its innovative and historical designs thanks to Antoni Gaudi. The most famous of his works is La Sagrada Famila, the Roman Catholic temple built in 1883 and still unfinished! Las Ramblas is Barcelona’s most famous street and is one of the most favourite things to do whilst on a business trip to Barcelona. This street is vibrant and energetic with street performers, stunning Chinese influenced architecture, markets, cafes, shows, everything you could wish to see. La Pedrera (Casa Mila) is the last building designed by Antoni Gaudi. This space is now a museum sectioned off into three areas. The first floor is an art gallery and hosts free shows put on by various artists. The upstairs space is dedicated to showing off the talents of Gaudi which is complemented with an audio guide. There is an opportunity to walk around the roof and enjoy panoramic views of the city.
Day Trips
The Park Guell is one of the most popular venues in Barcelona. This was again designed by Antoni Gaudi and combines dramatic architecture with outdoor space and fountains. It is a spectacular walk to the top to enjoy panoramic views of the city. This walk is pretty strenuous so agility is required. The Botanical Gardens were regenerated in 1999 and now proudly display an array of plants from seven different global regions which share a similar climate to Barcelona. It is a lovely and very reasonably priced tourist attraction in this city. The landscape is pretty contemporary and can be enjoyed by listening to free audio guides that lead you through the gardens. The Barcelona Aquarium is a home to a giant shark infested tank which can be enjoyed via a glass tunnel on a moving conveyor belt. There are 11,000 animals and 450 different species to be enjoyed. There are plenty of onsite facilities such as coffee and souvenir shops therefore it is a really fun day out.
Nightlife
Ginger is a relaxed cafĂ© bar that is described as being ‘all things to everyone.’ On offer to its visitors is a swish art deco cocktail bar, delicious tapas and hand selected wines. There is background music which adds to its cosy ambience. La Caseta del Migdia is classed as a bar and restaurant but is more of an actual ‘experience.’ It is an elevated venue described as a ‘magical space.’ The music policy at this venue can range from a DJ playing funk or rare groove to a string quartet.
Food is high end barbecue food and the ambiance is pretty relaxed thanks to the burning candles and hammocks draped around the venue. La Terrrazza is a nightclub described is one of the most glamorous venues in Barcelona, a ‘nightclub that Hollywood would be proud of.’ It is very much an after-hours scene if the attractions of the day have not tired you out! The culture of Barcelona is to start late i.e. midnight and party until the early hours i.e. 6am, therefore not for the faint heated.
